At the start of each school year, the Bunny Cage gets a new batch of interns, but this year does not just include new interns, but also a new store manager. Promoted from a simple business student to the store manager for the Bunny Cage, Paw Win Win manages to balance her extracurriculars while taking as many business intern classes as possible.
Win started off as an intern registered in DECA, through an election in DECA she managed to secure her spot as the store manager by a large margin as she showed responsibility, leadership, and gained trust amongst the other members.
“Honestly, being the store manager is quite relaxing. You’re mostly responsible for making sure the orders are done, relaying messages to the other interns, and keeping the store in the best state possible,” Win said.
As part of the job, she had the responsibility to qualify the store for a school-based enterprise certification called SEB. An award given based on how well the store is being run by the school and students.
The process was not simple for her as the certification wasn’t done for six years for the Bunny Cage.
“The process for me was a lot of understanding how the school store worked and knowing the mission. Things like inventory, marketing plan and financial management were very important to gather for the presentation,” Win said. “Most of the things that went into documenting was how we ran the store and what our retail process looked like.”
Throughout the year, she made it her goal to get as many business intern classes as possible replacing classes that she had credits for to balance her life. She managed to take three business intern classes for her second semester.
“It was more convenient for me to stay rather than driving back to pick up my sibling,” Win said.
With the change of responsibility during her senior year, she still manages to be on track for graduation and is working harder than ever to make sure the interns are producing quality work.
“Mrs. Goergen makes it mostly stress free and easy to get the hang of everything going on in the store,” Win said. “That’s what I like a lot about my role and the class.”
