During the fall, students take the chance to plan out their fall by taking the time to trick or treat on Halloween, preparing for Thanksgiving, or going to a pumpkin patch with friends or family, they are all a part of an unspoken tradition within the daily lives of students.
Many students at Benson go to Vala’s Pumpkin Patch in Gretna, Nebraska for their fall tradition of spending time and having fun with their family or friends when their schedule allows it.
“I just go to Vala’s whenever my friends can,” senior Joseph Dunwoody said. “Though the majority of my time during the fall, I just go to work and get money.”
When Halloween arrives, some go out to trick or treat their family.
“All I do in the fall is go trick or treating with my half-sister,” senior Paw Hser said.
Others use the fall to get prepared for Thanksgiving by planning out what to bring, what to cook and who to invite.
“I usually take the time to prepare the food for Thanksgiving and go to Vala’s when I can like everybody else,” senior Rakim Hayes said.
Fall doesn’t only include holidays; it also includes foods like turkey, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, candy apples, pumpkin pie and much more.
While some students do not celebrate Halloween, they take the time after Thanksgiving to get prepared for Christmas with their family.
“I don’t do much in the fall other than celebrate Thanksgiving with my family,” sophomore Samuel Soe said. “After Thanksgiving, we take the time to prepare for Christmas.”
These traditions help students have an opportunity to spend time with family and friends. Even a simple happy Thanksgiving or a happy Halloween are a part of a fall tradition.
