Winter break is approaching quickly; students and teachers are making their last preparations to finish the year strong.
With the 25’-26’ school year’s first semester ending, Benson students and teachers were anticipating the reset. Whether it was finishing semester projects or creating test finals, everyone needed a long break. The end of semester finals decides the final grade that goes on a student’s report card.
“In the coming days, most of my classes will start to review,” math teacher Joseph Ruiz said. “In a few of my classes we are a little behind of schedule and they are finishing up on the final lessons.”
When teaching a math class, lessons are bound to get behind schedule so the teacher can ensure the students understand the subject. Teaching is not the entire job, though.
“For the most part, I’ll be using the district curriculum to decide the questions I put on finals,” Ruiz said. “All the grading I will be doing over the weeks before and after finals scares me but after that I have a nice break.”
As teachers prepare, students are also doing their part whether it is studying or going to teachers.
“I am excited for finals,” senior Jennifer Vazquez-Medina said. “The semester will be ending soon and that marks a checkpoint of my senior year.”
Whether it is checkpoints or refreshing for the next half of the year, students are excited about preparing for finals.
“I’ve been studying notes and going to teachers during lead to ensure I get a good grade,” Vazquez-Medina said.
Studying day and night can assist in confidence of doing well during the final test of the year.
“I am super confident in my finals,” Vazquez-Medina said. “I’ve been studying more than usual and trying my hardest in all my classes.”
While some students feel confident about finals, others cannot say the same thing. Some see this as a scary time when everything could go wrong.
“I am not very thrilled about finals,” sophomore Aaron Kelly said. “I’ve been prepping for months hoping finals can go the way I’d like them to go.”
Prepping for finals to do well is always a good plan. Going to teachers is just a small way students can prepare for the finals they have in the coming weeks.
As Benson High School approaches winter break, students and teachers are pushing through the final stretch. Whether they feel confident or nervous, everyone is working toward the same goal: finishing the semester as strong as they can.
