The time has arrived once again for another production from Benson Drama and this time it is a musical filled with many role opportunities.
Students who are interested in auditioning can scan the QR code posted in the hallways. Auditions will happen after school in the auditorium on Tuesday, Dec. 16 and Wednesday, Dec. 17 from 3:30-5 p.m.
“The Hobbit” is about a home-loving hobbit named Bilbo Baggins, who is recruited by the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves to help them reclaim their treasure from the dragon Smaug in the Lonely Mountain. Bilbo has an adventure along the way that turns him into a courageous hero instead of a timid homebody.
Freshman Araelia Kennedy played in Benson’s previous play “Eurydice” and shares how auditioning for the first time felt.
“When auditioning for ‘Eurydice,’ I was very nervous because it was my first time ever auditioning for a show, but all my friends were so kind and supportive,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy has some words of advice for students wanting to audition.
“Do not stress yourself out and think about how ‘embarrassing’ it might be,” Kennedy said. “You have to be able to put aside your feelings of stress and just do it for fun.”
Freshman Zoe Olney was on the tech crew and did lights for “Eurydice” and she also has some words of advice for auditioning students.
“There is no harm in trying something new and it could open the door to new possibilities,” Olney said.
There is also the option to be on the tech crew for students who are not interested in acting.
