Avenue scholars is a program that helps students choose their career path and earn scholarships. They are a nonprofit organization that was founded in Omaha that helps bridge the gap between education and the high demand careers for students that need financial aid.
Canei Rodriquez is a coach who will help students that join Avenue Scholars. She has been a career coach and been in the organization for five years.
“My role with Avenue Scholars is to support high school junior and seniors by helping them prepare for life after this.” Coach Rodriquez said. “My goal is to help each student discover their potential and create a clear plan for their future.”
Benson graduate Kamara Cullins was in Avenue Scholars when she completed her CNA in her junior year and was able to graduate high school and go to college as a nurse with the help of Avenue Scholars.
Coach Rodriquez describes how does she helps students achieve their career and their academic goals.
“I guide, support, and empower students by helping them explore careers and connect to the real-world experiences.” Coach Rodriquez said.
Rodriquez’ strategy is to keep students motivated and engaged and help those who struggle with conferences or consistency.
“Each scholar’s journey is unique!” Coach Rodriquez said, “Their resilience inspires me! All scholarship wants to be seen and heard.”
Rodriquez makes working with Avenue Scholars classroom different from learning in a traditional classroom.
“Focus on the whole student academics pursue growth, and career readiness etc.” Rodriquez said.
