There are a few scholarships, but some of them require students to be the son, daughter, or grandchildren of an OEA member or were former OEA member. The OEA foundation serves as the educational and charitable arm of the Omaha education association.
Here are the scholarships that do not include students related to an OEA member. Be wary, some of these scholarships are very strict and have requirements.
Jesse J. & Angela Bavaresco Memorial Scholarship – $1,400
This scholar requires students to have a 3.5 GPA and above, and seek further education in nursing school, business school, or vocational training school.
Dr. Hollie Bethel Scholarships – 3 Scholarships of $4,000 each
These three scholarships for $4,000 each require students to graduate from OPS with a thought of career of education, with ranking in the top-quarter classes.
Sharon Engelhart Memorial Scholarship – $1,000
This scholarship is for graduate students who went to Sunnyside elementary school for at least three years and ranked in the top one-third of their classes.
Mary Ann Fields Memorial Scholarship – $1,500
This scholarship requires students to be senior ops graduates, former students of walnut hill elementary school, rank in the top one-half of their class, demonstrate financial need, and show outstanding personal character.
Bernard & Eunice Gyger Scholarship – $1,250
This scholar requires students of graduation ops students to pursue a full-time career in elementary education and rank in the top one-quarter of their class.
Warren & Evelyn Hotz Memorial Scholarships – $4,000 each
Nine of these scholarships are awarded to student’s seniors graduating from OPS who show clear intent to work to show they are consistent with their education, have good citizenship in the Omaha Public Schools, participate in activities to the extent, and must rank in the top one-third of their class.
Dr. Odra Bradley Career Skills Education Scholarship – $1,500
This scholarship is for students going into a career and technical education field. Students applying for this scholarship must have completed course work of career and technical pathway before their junior and senior year. Students must demonstrate good character, behavior and achievement that will make them a good contribution for their career and technical education.
